Try One of Houston’s Iconic Dishes at 3 Traditional Houston Hot Spots

Houston offers an incredible culinary history. Local chefs combine global influences with their own unique touches to create dishes both delicious and iconic. If you would like to try some of the city’s most beloved recipes, here are three Houston hot spots you don’t want to miss.

Brennan’s of Houston

Firstly, called the “Crown Jewel of Texas’ Creole Cuisine,” Brennan’s of Houston is one of the city’s premier destinations for memorable dining served with genuine Southern hospitality. It’s where many locals celebrate special occasions. It comes complete with exposed brick, chandeliers, and tables covered with white cloth.

On the menu, guests find the Shrimp Chippewa. It’s the restaurant’s iconic dish. Get ready for tableside flames with sun-dried tomatoes over goat cheese ground grits from Waco.

Hugo’s

Secondly, nestled in the heart of the Montrose neighborhood, Hugo’s brings Mexico’s exciting and earthy flavors to Houston. Owned by award-winning chef Hugo Ortega, the restaurant is in a 1925 building. It comes complete with contemporary touches and the traditional elements of Old Mexico.

Chef Ortega has earned many recognitions including the coveted James Beard Award, and his iconic dish is the barbacoa. It features lamb with chiles, onions, garlic, and avocado leaves. Try it with The Hugo Rita!

Christie’s Seafood Restaurant

Lastly, this is where great food and great memories come together. Christie’s Seafood Restaurant has been serving delicious meals since 1917. It’s open nightly until at least 9:00 pm, and guests always enjoy friendly service in a casual setting featuring nautical decor and dozens of photographs.

Not to mention, the fried shrimp is iconic. It comes with homemade remoulade sauce, a side salad, and your choice of side.
