Chevron Houston Marathon
The Chevron Houston Marathon is one of the most popular running events in the city. It welcomes participants of all levels, including elite athletes from across the globe. And it’s been called “One of the Fastest Winter Marathons in the Country” by the editors of the Ultimate Guide to Marathons. The course is flat, and it meanders by Buffalo Bayou, Minute Maid Park, and other notable landmarks. Those who don’t wish to run 26.2 miles can enter the half marathon instead.
The first Chevron Houston Marathon was held in 1972. It welcomed 113 runners and about twice as many spectators. Danny Green crossed the finish line first, and he went on to become one of the country’s top high school track and cross-country coaches at The Woodlands.
