Houston is gorgeous year-round, but late November is truly one of the best times of year. The cooler temperatures are ideal for a daytime stroll, allowing us to fully savor our Southern outdoor lifestyle. Sometimes the simplest of activities can be the most enjoyable.
This season, lace up your walking shoes and enjoy a stroll through one of the best walks in Houston:
This 445-acre public space is beloved by locals, with various amenities planned by the citizen-supported Hermann Park Conservancy. This well-planned urban oasis provides ample paths for walking, including welcoming trails with a pedestrian bridge. Our favorite stroll brings us past an area known as “Bird Island.” This is a tranquil spot in McGovern Lake. You’re likely to hear the calls of the park’s resident avian friends.
Brays Bayou Trail
This serpentine trail winds through the city along the watershed of several streams, and the Bayou Preservation Society works to keep it beautiful for all residents. If you wish to spend the full day walking, this trail provides over 33 miles of asphalt with a wide variety of striking city vistas along the way. If you’re in search of a break along the way, you’ll find multiple access points to the Metro Rail along the pathway.
Loop the Astrodome
On non-game days, you’ll find the astrodome area to be a relatively uncrowded spot for some fun walking loops. If you’re looking to “up your walking game,” try challenging yourself to achieve a certain number of steps around the dome. Take some athletic inspiration from the impressive stadium as you circle it!
