We’re not sure when ice cream became so luxurious, but we are here for it. There are three hip ice cream shops that you need to check out while the weather is heating up. Grab a friend and prepare to have some of the best ice cream you’ve ever had from shops near our apartments in Houston.
milk + sugar
If you’re looking for vanilla ice cream, don’t go to milk + sugar. Their motto is actually “life is too short for plain vanilla.” A husband and wife team opened milk + sugar to share their love of delicious ice cream with Houston.
All flavors and mix-ins are made in the shop. Loyal customers rave about Rain or Shine, which has Earl Grey with a lemon base and lavender. The City That Never Sleeps has a coffee and pretzel base with chocolate flakes. There are plenty of other original flavors to keep you going back for more.
Flower & Cream
The owners of Flower & Cream got the idea to open an ice cream shop while watching “Friends” and eating a tub of store-bought ice cream. The shop rotates flavors such as Nutella Banana and Unicorn Tracks. You also might find a fancy version of vanilla made with Madagascar vanilla in a custard base. For a fun sampling, order an ice cream flight. It comes with six different flavors. You can also commit to one flavor and get a flavored waffle cone made in-house.
The original bae opened in L.A. and was so successful that they decided to expand to Houston. You’ll definitely feel like a celebrity as soon as you walk in. The soft serve ice cream comes in flavors like Koo Koo for Earl (Earl Grey tea flavor twisted with Coco Puff flavor). There’s also Pegasus (Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Fruity Pebbles flavors twisted together). Even the toppings are cool. There’s Pocky, Hello Panda cookies, mochi, and more. If you’re feeling really fancy, go with the top-tier toppings like 24K gold leaf or edible rose gold hearts.
Any of these ice cream shops would be a perfect way to cool down after an afternoon at an adventure park in Houston. Then cool off in the refreshing pool at our apartment community or burn off energy at the 24-hour fitness center.
